Perinatal Exposure to Airborne Pollutants and Associations with Autism Phenotype

Project Timeline: 2/1/2012

The purpose of this project was to augment phenotypic and genetic data in the Autism Genetic Resource Exchange (AGRE) by:
1) Collecting residential history of families to determine geographic locations of mothers and children during pregnancy and early childhood, particularly the perinatal period, when environmental exposure may be relevant;
2) Integrating demographic and socioeconomic factors from census data available at aggregate levels that describes local and regional characteristics. The project also evaluated the association between hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) exposure; and
3) Examining the relationship between criteria air pollutants and roadway proximity.
